San Agustín brilla más que nunca con sus Noches de Luces Latinas

La ciudad de San Agustín no solo es la ciudad más antigua de los Estados Unidos, sino que es una de las más mágicas y durante la época festiva rumbo a la Navidad, resplandece con las Noches de Luces.

La celebración anual de las Noches de Luces de San Agustín comenzó más temprano este año en el Distrito Histórico donde, por vigésimo séptima ocasión, luces blancas se exhiben en aproximadamente 20 cuadras, vistiendo la arquitectura colonial española y brillando desde el suelo hasta los tejados sobre el Bridge of Lions (Puente de los Leones), a lo largo de edificios históricos, espacios públicos, hoteles, restaurantes y hospedajes tipo bed & breakfast.

 

“Esto hace que las Noches de Luces sean una muestra única bajo cualquier medición”, asegura la página de visitantes de San Agustín.

Podrás disfrutar de esta majestuosa experiencia todas las noches, del 14 de noviembre de 2020 al 31 de enero de 2021. Definitivamente una experiencia que no te puedes perder.

 

Para los hispanos, en especial quienes han visitado el Castillo del Morro en Puerto Rico o el Castillo San Felipe de Barajas en Colombia, San Agustín y sus calles amuralladas los lleva de regreso ya sea a su tierra natal o a esa visita que realizaron en sus vacaciones.

 

 

Richard Goldman, presidente y director ejecutivo de la Oficina de visitantes y convenciones de St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra y The Beaches resaltó que “el mundo entero ama venir a San Agustín, especialmente cuando estamos así de adornados en Navidad. Pero sí, especialmente los hispanos lo relacionan con El Viejo San Juan y otros fuertes también fundados por los españoles que hicieron a San Agustín”.

En medio de la pandemia del coronavirus, Goldman asegura que es el destino perfecto para quien quiere darse una pequeña escapada del día a día y poder estar seguro de que lo hará de manera segura.

“La belleza de San Agustín es que hay tanto que se puede hacer afuera. Muchos de nuestros restaurantes, reconocidos mundialmente, tienen mucho espacio afuera, así que sirven a las personas afuera en una manera segura. Además, paseando por la ciudad, somos una ciudad muy transitable y haciendo eso también es afuera y es fácil distanciarse de las personas”, dijo.

Goldman resaltó que los visitantes también usan mascarillas mientras están afuera y “cuando tienes 42 millas de playas, sin edificios altos es bien fácil disfrutar todo lo que tenemos”.

Y, precisamente por la cantidad de hispanos que reciben a diario, este año, por primera vez, los visitantes podrán disfrutar de un recorrido en español por el magnífico alumbrado de las Noches de Luces en San Agustín.

Para disfrutar y aprender de Las Noches de Luces en San Agustín, tienen sus orígenes en la tradición española de exhibir una vela blanca en las ventanas durante la temporada festiva de la Navidad, una pareja puertorriqueña se dio a la tarea de conceptualizar esta excursión en español y con música navideña en español.

Anes Beaz y Luis Salva, dueños de St. Augustine Land and Sea Tours se dieron a la tarea de hacer realidad la opción de un tour en español para sus clientes. “La cantidad de gente que viene que a la que me escuchaban hablar español se me pegaban y me preguntaban es increíble. Por eso decidimos atrevernos, porque sabemos que hay demanda”, dijo Beaz.

Salva reiteró que “no hay nada como el idioma de uno y poder disfrutar de algo tan bello como este y otros tours que realizamos y poder tener a alguien que te hable en español, es inigualable”.

Al ritmo de “Con mi burrito Sabanero” y “Feliz Navidad”, esta pareja de boricuas maneja en dos carritos de golf con capacidad para 4,5 o 6 pasajeros para que puedan ver todas las luces que alumbran la ciudad al son de la felicidad navideña.

“Solo va el conductor y su grupo. Estos son paseos privados en carritos de golf solo para usted y su familia o amigos. Así nos aseguramos que cumplimos con las reglas de los CDC y el gobierno, mantenemos distancia social y todos estamos seguros”, dijo Salva.

Los paseos en carritos de golf duran entre 30 y 45 minutos, según el tráfico, explicaron. Durante las Noches de Luces la ciudad se congestiona un poco más pues todos van en auto a dar la vuelta. Sin embargo, Beaz asegura que el tiempo del recorrido “ya sean los 30 o 45 minutos, la van a pasar de maravilla”.

A diferencia de otros recorridos, recorridos de Noches de luces no son narrados, estos están diseñados para que escuche la música y vea las luces de la ciudad. Sin embargo, los conductores también “son guías turísticos certificados y estarán encantados de responder cualquier pregunta. También pueden reservar otros tours que sí son narrados y les podemos explicar en detalles cada rincón de esta hermosa ciudad, ya sea por agua o tierra”, dijo Beaz.

Durante la exhibición de temporada, los establecimientos del centro permanecen abiertos hasta más tarde, lo que permite a los visitantes cenar mientras contemplan las luces y explorar las tiendas de los edificios decorados.

Los trenes y tranvías ofrecen recorridos especiales de temporada por las mejores áreas, y también hay una variedad de recorridos especiales — desde caminatas hasta paseos en carritos eléctricos e incluso recorridos para ver las luces desde el agua y desde el aire.

“Las luces dan alegría navideña a los visitantes y lugareños en San Agustín, quienes pueden disfrutar de la exhibición por varios rincones de la ciudad, desde las deslumbrantes luces a lo largo del frente de la bahía hasta el árbol de Navidad, ubicado en el centro de la Plaza de la Constitución; y desde el anochecer hasta el amanecer”, destaca la ciudad.

La celebración de Las Noches de Luces fue elegida en 2011 y 2012 por la National Geographic como una de las 10 mejores exhibiciones de iluminación navideña del mundo.

“Si todavía no han aprovechado y han visto cómo se transforma esta ciudad con todas las luces, tienen que venir a verla. No se van a arrepentir”, aseguró Salva.

Entre las medidas que están tomando para mantenerse seguros ante la COVID-19, St. Augustine Land and Sea Tours ha tomado varias medidas de seguridad entre las que destacan:

  • Limitar el tamaño de los grupos a 8 participantes por guía.

“No ha sido del todo fácil”, confesó Beaz quien recuerda cómo estuvieron completamente cerrados por alrededor de 4 meses a principio del año. “Poco a poco vamos retomando una nueva normalidad, siempre poniendo la seguridad de nuestros visitantes y la nuestra primero”.
